FT Top 10 Legal Innovators for North America
Partner Joe Dewey was recognized by The Financial Times as a Top 10 Legal Innovator for North America for his leading practice in the emerging areas of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
Mr. Dewey has the unique ability to represent financial institutions and other clients in complex transactions thanks to his knowledge of and passion for coding. In order to automate a range of manual processes at the firm, he helped developed proof-of-concept applications and worked with data scientists and programmers to create machine learning tools for other Holland & Knight lawyers. Mr. Dewey is also an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, where he teaches students the technologies and skills that will make them relevant in the evolving practice of real estate law.
Most notably, Mr. Dewey headlined the BlockBlade™ program at Holland & Knight, which enables clients to easily and rapidly search data on the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains to identify relationships between accounts and transactions. The technology can also be used to help freeze virtual currencies lost in hacks and track illicit cryptocurrency transactions.
Holland & Knight was also named a "Legal Innovator of the Year" and "Innovation in the Business of Law" finalists in the publication's North American Innovative Lawyers 2018 awards.
