Holland & Knight Launches Consumer Protection Defense and Compliance Institute

WASHINGTON (February 18, 2016) – Holland & Knight announced today that it has formed the Holland & Knight Institute for Consumer Protection Defense and Compliance to keep companies abreast of the latest developments in consumer protection laws and regulations.

The initial offerings of the Holland & Knight Institute for Consumer Protection Defense and Compliance will include:

  • quarterly webinars providing updates on consumer litigation and governmental investigations by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), state attorneys general and other federal and state regulators
  • conferences featuring top law enforcement officials and thought leaders
  • a comprehensive website featuring the latest news, government press releases, links to key government resources and remarks made by federal officials, a library of publications, presentations and videos on consumer protection issues, plus risk management and compliance tips

"General counsels and in-house regulatory compliance attorneys must address complex and ever-changing consumer protection laws and regulations," said Anthony DiResta, co-chair of Holland & Knight's Consumer Protection Defense and Compliance Practice. "Our goal is to provide them the practical resources that they need to inform their decisions with respect to prudent risk management, sound compliance practices and effective defense against government inquiries."

"Our hope is that the Institute will serve as a problem-solving platform for companies to develop effective and robust compliance management systems that withstand regulatory scrutiny," added practice co-chair Kwamina Williford. "We intend for it to be a vehicle for decision-makers to understand the mindset of the regulators and to appreciate industry best practices."

With more than 30 lawyers nationally, Holland & Knight's Consumer Protection Defense and Compliance Practice represents clients in nearly every industry sector in a full range of consumer protection matters, including federal and state governmental investigations, class actions and competitor litigation, unfair competition charges and risk management counseling. Its attorneys are thought leaders and impact players in the consumer protection bar, and several have held leadership positions at the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice, state attorneys general offices and other governmental agencies.
