Miami Litigator Dan Small Advises Outside the Box — on Uzbek Legal System Overhaul

Partner Dan Small was featured in an article by the Daily Business Review on his pro bono work to help attorneys in Uzbekistan to overhaul their judicial system as the current system puts the judge in charge of cases as they receive the investigative findings and decides how to proceed from there. This system overhaul has been led by young Uzbek attorneys after the 2016 election of President Shavkat Mirzijoyev as President Mirzijoyev is open to societal changes that will improve the country and bring an economic boost.  

“The new president has been open to change in all aspects of their society — in political, economic and social and the judicial system, it has been a process that started slowly and accelerated. Some would say it still is moving slowly, but I disagree. I think they have made enormous strides. How do you create a whole new system? It’s not easy,” said Mr. Small.
