Tariffs Fuel Already High Construction Costs

West Coast Land Use and Environment Partner Andrew Starrels spoke with GlobeSt.com to discuss how tariffs are affecting residential and commercial construction costs in California. Mr. Starrels provided his insight on a variety of topics such as the impact tariffs have had on LA construction, the long-term effects of these tariffs, his advice for developers who are being affected, and how consumers and renters will be impacted.

"If construction costs increase for a sustained period of time—whether as a result of tariffs or any other external force affecting price—we will see rents and prices escalate. Unfortunately, this will be felt most severely on product types that cater to consumers, and the most precarious of these types is housing." says Mr. Starrels
