Will Colombia's Peace Agreement Remain Intact?

The Latin American Advisor
Enrique Gomez-Pinzon

International and Cross Border Transactions Partner Enrique Gómez-Pinzon was quoted in The Latin American Advisor on Colombia's Peace Agreement with Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels. The current peace agreement has experienced several delays as former FARC leaders, Hernán Darío Velásquez ‘El Paisa and Luciano Marín ‘Iván Márquez’, are missing. There is much speculation into whether the peace accord will remain intact during current President Duque's administration as there is no sign of commitment from FARC rebels on their ability to reintegrate into society without continuing to commit crimes.

"The peace process is going through one of its most difficult periods. Although the implementation plan of the agreement is supposed to take at least 15 years, in its first year there have already been significant delays, mainly in land issues, protection of social leaders and development of collective projects," said Mr. Gómez-Pinzon.
