Holland & Knight Adds Financial Services Regulatory Duo in Miami

MIAMI (March 24, 2014) – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Andres Fernandez and Gabriel Caballero have joined the firm's Miami office in its Financial Services Practice Group. Mr. Fernandez, who joined as a partner, was previously co-chair of Gunster's Banking and Financial Services Practice Group. Mr. Caballero, who joined as a senior counsel, was a member of the same group.

"Andy's reputation, industry leadership and broad client base, which includes domestic and foreign banks, broker-dealers and money services businesses, fits perfectly with our practice."

Messrs. Fernandez and Caballero advise domestic and international financial services clients on regulatory issues, with an emphasis on compliance and enforcement matters relating to anti-money laundering, the Bank Secrecy Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control regulations and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act. Mr. Fernandez is recognized by Chambers USA as an Up & Coming attorney in the area of banking and finance regulation and both gentlemen are listed as Rising Stars by Super Lawyers. Additionally, Mr. Caballero is a former associate general counsel of Banco Santander International.

Mr. Fernandez is a member of the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the South Florida Banking Institute's board of directors. He recently helped organize and presented at the 14th Annual Florida International Bankers Association (FIBA) Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Conference in Miami. In the community, Mr. Fernandez serves as general counsel to The Mike Lowell Foundation and as an honorary director of the Latin Builders Association.

Mr. Caballero is active in FIBA, serving on the legal and regulatory affairs committee, BSA/AML compliance officers committee, and the operations committee. He is also a member of the United Way of Miami-Dade's Tocqueville Society of Young Leaders.
