Still Many Hurdles for a Keys Ferry to Cuba

There are several issues that need to be resolved before a ferry terminal is established to take travelers from Key West to Cuba. Attorney David Whitestone, who has lobbied on this issue on behalf of the city of Key West during the last several months, said despite a few ferry companies already having permission from the federal government, Key West does not currently have a ferry terminal where U.S. Customs and Border Protection can clear international ferry travelers.

"Without a doubt, that's going to be the next step. We'll talk to U.S. Customs and Border Protection about the resources that are available," Mr. Whitestone said.
