Attorneys Janet Judge, Isabel Diaz, Miriam McKendall, Nate Adams and Phil Catanzano  will be participating at the NACUA 2019 Annual Conference on June 23-26, 2019.

Lawyers New to Higher Education Workshop
Ms. Judge will discuss "College Athletics" during the Lawyers New to Higher Education Workshop pre-conference panel on June 22 at 2:00 - 3:15 p.m. MT. The panel will review the NCAA structure and enforcement, Title IX and intercollegiate athletics and trending topics in the industry.

Student-Athlete Well-Being and Understanding the Evolving Standard of Care
Ms. Judge will also be a panelist on "Student-Athlete Well-Being and Understanding the Evolving Standard of Care" on June 25 at 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. MT. The panel will discuss what higher education lawyers need to know about sports medicine oversight and topical health issues such as concussions, mental health and substance abuse in college athletics. Ms. Judge will also explore the duty of care that institutions need to administer in athletic programs in view of heightened scrutiny and high profile cases.

Real Property Forum
Ms. Diaz will speak on "Real Property Forum" on June 24 at 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. MT. The panel will provide insights into managing non-academic uses of campus and near-campus assets, how to minimize the impacts of ongoing construction operations and how to manage and maintain fraternity and sorority chapter houses.

Conducting Investigations into Coach and Athletic Staff Misconduct
Ms. McKendall will be a moderator for the "Conducting Investigations into Coach and Athletic Staff Misconduct" panel on June 25 at 9:15 - 10:30 a.m. MT. Ms. McKendall will focus the panel on the hiring process for coaches and athletic staff, the relationship between the general counsel and director of athletics and when an investigation is warranted and when should an independent investigator be retained.

Divining Academic Freedom at Religious Institutions
Mr. Adams will provide his insights into the legal foundations of academic freedom during the "Divining Academic Freedom at Religious Institutions" panel on June 25 at 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. MT. The panel will also discuss developments within higher education regarding the meaning and limitations of academic freedom.

An "Update and Restart" for Website Accessibility Compliance on Your Campus
Mr. Catanzano will be participating in a panel on "An "Update and Restart" for Website Accessibility Compliance on Your Campus" on June 25 at 9:15 - 10:30 a.m. MT. Mr. Catanzano will provide a legal update on the laws, regulatory activity and enforcement actions that universities should consider. The panel will also speak on navigating an OCR compliant and how to develop a compliance plan.
