Taking place in Orlando this year, the U.S. Shopping Center Law Conference provides retail real estate legal professionals the opportunity to gain industry-specific knowledge and insight from leading authorities and network with industry peers. Holland & Knight attorneys Marjorie Gannett, Janis Schiff, Tara Scanlon, Jim Mayer, Chris Brockman and Kathryn Oberto will participate in some of the four-day conference's multi-format sessions.

Ms. Gannett will speak on the "Top 10 Missteps in Commercial Real Estate Closings" panel, which will focus on helping attorneys avoid misconceptions and mistakes regarding title and survey in transactions in order to protect their client and save them money. In the "What’s Popping with Pop-Up Stores?" discussion, Ms. Schiff and other panelists will assess the unique challenges and benefits of the ever-evolving landscape of short-term leases for tenants and landlords alike. Ms. Scanlon will help explore the wide variety of issues often encountered when negotiating lease assignments and subleases, as well as negotiation and compromise techniques in during "Minimizing Headaches when Dealing with Excess Space."

Mr. Mayer, who is a member of the conference's planning subcommittee for seminars, will facilitate the "Management Agreements: Who is Really Managing the Shopping Center?" workshop. This program will review and discuss negotiating shopping center management agreements from both the owner’s and property manager’s perspective, as well as discuss the risks and responsibilities involved in drafting these documents.

Mr. Brockman will speak on "So You Want to Close Using Bitcoins? I Don't Think So!" panel, which will focus on disadvantages of using Bitcoins in the real estate industry.

Ms. Oberto will speak on the "Experiential Leasing - Creating Customer Magic Does Not Have to be a Nightmare for the Clients or the Attorneys" panel.
