Amtrak Derailment Scene Investigation Could Take Week; 2 Of Those Killed Were Rail Enthusiasts

Investigators are discovering key sources of information regarding the train derailment in Washington earlier this week. The National Transportation Safety Board has made significant progress, but the official cause of the derailment will remain unknown until the investigation is complete.

A National Transportation Safety Board investigation typically takes 12 to 18 months to determine a probable cause, said Jamie Rodriguez, attorney and former assistant general counsel for the agency.
