Holland & Knight

NEW YORK (November 5, 2018) – Prominent corporate/financial services lawyer Paul M. Aguggia has joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the firm's New York office. Mr. Aguggia was chairman and chief executive officer of publicly held Clifton Bancorp Inc. from January 2014 until its merger with Kearny Financial Corp., on whose board of directors he served until October 2018. Previously, he was chairman of the international law firm Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.

"Paul brings to the firm his experience as a practicing attorney, law firm leader, and chief executive officer and director of a public company. His background makes him uniquely qualified to advise clients, boards of directors and management on a broad range of matters," said Steven Sonberg, Holland & Knight managing partner. "His extensive network of contacts will also be of great value as we continue to expand our presence in the financial services industry."

As a lawyer in private practice, Mr. Aguggia has more than 25 years of experience serving as lead outside counsel for numerous financial institutions throughout the United States on their most significant corporate transactions and regulatory issues, as well as on corporate governance, strategic planning, investor relations, securities reporting/regulation/compliance, risk management and executive/board compensation matters.

"Holland & Knight's extensive platform for advising financial institutions on the wide variety of issues faced in today's complex business and regulatory environments and its stellar reputation throughout the country were major factors in my decision to join the firm," said Mr. Aguggia.

"Paul is an important addition to our growing corporate transactional practice in New York," said Amy Leder, co-head of Holland & Knight's Northeast Corporate, M&A and Securities Practice Group and executive partner of the firm's New York office. "He brings a valuable combination of business and leadership experience to our rapidly expanding team."

Mr. Aguggia received a J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law and a B.A. degree from Colgate University. He also completed executive leadership programs at Harvard Business School and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. In 2015, he was invited by Darden to be an instructor in its Bank Financial Leadership program. He is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia and New York.
