EPA to Eliminate Letter Grades for Some Project Reviews

The Wall Street Journal

Partner Rafe Petersen was quoted in The Wall Street Journal on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) decision to eliminate the letter grading system for project reviews. The EPA decided to simplify their permitting process for highways, bridges and other infrastructure projects. Environmentalist are concerned with the change as the letter grade system allowed them to gain public attention on projects that failed the review. Mr. Petersen discussed how companies with failing grades would be pleased with this change as its a red flag for citizens if public infrastructure projects failed the EPA's inspection.

Mr. Petersen explained that the failing letter grade "is an incredibly bad red flag for everybody, so I can see how some people would want it to go away."
