Holland & Knight Adds Aviation Finance Partner John Hoover in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON (July 16, 2018) – John Hoover has joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the firm’s structured finance practice, focusing on commercial aircraft transactions. Mr. Hoover will reside in the Washington, D.C., office. Most recently, he was a special counsel at Cooley LLP.

Mr. Hoover has a wide range of experience in federal and state tax planning and compliance matters involving business aircraft, tax-exempt organizations, individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates, trusts and other entities. He has represented many clients in federal and state tax audits, particularly with respect to business aircraft.  

“John is recognized as one of the leading tax authorities in structuring business jet ownership arrangements for tax purposes,” said William Piels, the leader of Holland & Knight’s Structured Finance practice. “He will play an important role in expanding our work in the area of business jet financings and leases, which is a strategic priority for our group.”

Mr. Hoover received an LL.M. degree in tax from the Georgetown University Law Center, a J.D. degree and an MBA degree from the University of Georgia, and a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of Virginia. He is a certified public accountant.
