Holland & Knight New York City Partner, Mark Stone Elected President of the International Tax Institute

NEW YORK – December 16, 2010 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Mark Stone, a partner in the firm's New York office, has been elected President of the International Tax Institute, (ITI) effective January 1, 2011. As President of the organization, Stone will lead the prominent New York based discussion group for lawyers and accountants specializing in international tax.

Founded in 1961, the International Tax Institute, Inc. is a non-profit organization run by tax professionals to benefit the international tax community. The organization provides continuing education led by top tax professionals as well as government policy-makers. Members of their board of directors include representatives from top global law and accounting firms.

Stone focuses his tax practice in the areas of corporate, international and real estate matters and has considerable experience in the representation of non-U.S. companies. He has represented clients from Europe and Japan in a variety of taxable and tax-free matters including mergers and acquisitions of and by telecommunication companies and real estate concerns, as well as cross-border licenses, joint ventures, fund formations and investments. Stone has written articles as author, co-author, or contributing author, on international and domestic issues in well respected journals. He is a frequent speaker on international and real estate tax matters at CLE tax programs sponsored by the American Bar Association, the New York City Bar, the International Fiscal Association, and other forums. Stone is also actively involved in bar association activities. He is Vice Chair of the Federal Taxation of Real Estate Committee of the American Bar Association's Real Property Section (2009-2011), member of the board of directors of the International Tax Institute, Inc., and the immediate past Chair of the New York City Bar Committee on Taxation of Business Entities (2005-2008) where he led the committee to national prominence through the issuance of well respected reports to Treasury, Congress and the OECD. He is also a member of the ABA Tax Section and the International Fiscal Association (USA).
