Holland & Knight

NEW YORK (August 22, 2018) – Holland & Knight Partner Christopher R. Nolan was elected secretary of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) this spring and installed as an officer at the ABA's 2018 annual meeting earlier this month in Chicago.

Mr. Nolan has been a member of the TIPS Council since 2016. He was chair of the Admiralty & Maritime Law Committee in 2011-2012 when it won the section's Overall Excellence award and has served in a host of other leadership roles in the organization over the past decade.

Mr. Nolan is co-chair of Holland & Knight's Transportation and Infrastructure Group. He concentrates on shipping, focusing mainly on dispute resolution arising from charterparties, bills of lading, fire and explosion, total loss, limitation and insolvency. He is regularly retained on behalf of Hull underwriters and P&J Clubs on marine insurance matters. Mr. Nolan acts as national counsel for a major ocean carrier and as such is frequently instructed in cargo disputes and contamination claims. In the last decade, he has developed a niche focus on the early resolution of thorny matters destined for court or arbitration.

Mr. Nolan is one of only 19 international shipping lawyers ranked in the 2018 edition of Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business, which includes a client reference that "Chris has expertly guided us through the pitfalls in the litigation process." Mr. Nolan also is ranked by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business in the category of Transportation: Shipping: Litigation (New York). The guide recognizes him as "a flourishing maritime litigator who performs excellent work on behalf of a host of domestic and international marine insurers, shipping companies and financial institutions, with additional experience handling insolvencies."
