Holland & Knight Assists Athenahealth Inc. in Purchase of "Arsenal on the Charles" Multi-Building Property

BOSTON (May 20, 2013) — A multidisciplinary team of attorneys from Holland & Knight represented athenahealth, Inc. in its $168.5 million purchase of the "Arsenal on the Charles," a large property in Watertown, Mass. The technology company, which provides cloud-based record and billing systems to the healthcare industry, acquired the 11-building, 29-acre office complex on the Charles River from Harvard University.

The growing company has occupied space in the complex since 2005, but wanted to have room to expand in the coming years. This unique property is a designated historic site, with some of its buildings dating back more than 200 years. Originally, the property was used as an arsenal during the Civil War.

Holland & Knight served as counsel to athenahealth throughout the acquisition process with Boston-based real estate partners Kenneth Hoffman and Suanne St. Charles taking the lead. Phil Lapatin, Dianne Phillips, Steve Humes and Caryn Brune provided additional significant support throughout the transaction.

With more than 280 lawyers and professionals, Holland & Knight's Real Estate Section is one of the largest of any U.S. law firm. In November 2012, the firm was named "Law Firm of the Year" in the area of real estate by U.S. News – Best Lawyers®.
