Manafort Case Puts New Scrutiny on Foreign Lobbying Law’s Shortcomings

Partner Chris DeLacy was recently quoted in The New York Times. He shed some light on Senator Charles E. Grassley's proposed bill that would close a major loophole in the current FARA law by requiring lobbyists who are hired by foreign commercial interests to file FARA reports. Currently, these lobbyists only file reports to Congress, but this bill will have lobbyists also file to the Justice Department as well to close the gray area between foreign commercial and governmental interests in countries that do not separate them.
“It’s a fairly safe bet that Congress is eventually going to take some sort of action,” Partner Christopher DeLacy said.
