Please join the Holland & Knight Women's Initiative for a virtual presentation by best-selling author Elizabeth Weitzman. Hollywood on Trial: Images of Women in Law is a multimedia program that contextualizes essential issues such as gatekeeping, diversity and inclusion through a range of cultural and historical imagery. Using fascinating film and television clips that span a full century, Ms. Weitzman illustrates the dramatically varied ways that popular culture has reflected and redefined our viewpoints and experiences. The program, moderated by Holland & Knight Partner Judy Nemsick, begins with a look at 1916 and the very first cinematic depiction of a working woman inside a courtroom, and it ends by exploring the ways that contemporary artists are teaching all of us to reject and reframe the biases still entrenched in professional narratives.

Ms. Weitzman is an award-winning speaker, journalist and author. Her most recent book, Renegade Women in Film & TV, chronicles the remarkable hidden history of pop culture pioneers. Ms. Weitzman was a film critic for the New York Daily News for 15 years and has written for The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Marie Claire and Harper's Bazaar. She has a master's degree in cinema studies from New York University and speaks regularly on gatekeeping, storytelling and women's history at organizations around the world.
