Houston Bar Association Environmental Law Section
Suite 500
Houston, TX 77002
Environment attorney James McGuire will be speaking at a session hosted by the Houston Bar Association's Environmental Law Section covering the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) recent Draft Sewage Sludge Risk Assessment for Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane Sulfonic Acid (PFOS). Mr. McGuire will discuss the science, toxicology and legal implications of the EPA's findings, including concerns about data gaps and regulatory uncertainty as states and organizations may reference a provisional 1 part per billion (ppb) threshold. The presentation will also review proposed Texas legislation (HB 1674/SB 886) addressing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in biosolids and compost and its potential impact on the regulated community.
