Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association (NDNY-FCBA)
Albany, New York 12207
Constitutional and public law attorney Christopher Riano will moderate a panel discussion about the 1735 trial of John Peter Zenger, a landmark case that helped establish freedom of the press in the United States. Hosted by the Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association (NDNY-FCBA), the program will begin with a reenactment of the famous trial, in which a jury acquitted Zenger of libel charges against New York's colonial governor that arose after he published articles critical of said governor, followed by a conversation featuring an experienced litigation attorney and former New York State Bar Association president alongside two prominent reporters. Guided by Mr. Riano, the speakers will explore the roots of the First Amendment and the lasting effects of The Crown v. John Peter Zenger today.
