Mexican Federal Electricity Commission Tenders Landmark HVDC Transmission Line Project

A preliminary version of the tender guidelines for the first-ever high-voltage direct current (“HVDC”) transmission line (the “Project”) has been published by the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission (“CFE”).  This is the first HVDC smart grid public-private partnership project of its kind under the Mexican Energy Reform.  Final tender guidelines will be published later this month following the conclusion of the public review process, proposals will be accepted in February 2017, and the Project is expected to begin commercial operation in 2020.
