Fenway Neighbors Berklee, Boston Conservatory Explore Merger

The Boston Globe

The Berklee College of Music and the Boston Conservatory are exploring a merger, which would combine the two neighboring schools into a powerhouse in performing arts education.

Board members says a merged organization would be more competitive as both institutions draw from each schools' strengths.

“Neither institution needs to do this,” said attorney David Scott Sloan, who is board chairman of the Boston Conservatory. But, he added, paraphrasing hockey great Wayne Gretzky, “A good hockey player plays to where the puck is, and a great hockey player plays to where the puck is going to be. We need, if we’re going to think strategically, to determine where is the future of performing arts education. We have to be there, and if it’s not defined, then we have to define it.”
