Dallas Residents Defy Winter Storm to Help Neighbors in Need
Dallas Partner Mark Melton was featured in a Dallas Observer article covering his efforts helping prepare warming centers around the city. Several centers have been set up in the area to provide shelter both to the city's homeless and to residents who have found themselves without heat amid widespread power outages. Mr. Melton helped secure bottled water, food and cots for the centers, even spending three hours tracking down a pallet of water bottles. He has also put out calls for volunteers on social media and worked with the city to organize their help. He commented that he doesn't expect the workload to slow, even once the snow stops and temperatures rise.
"There's obviously still a huge need, especially with the power outages. [We need to] have places for these people to go," he said. "The convention center is an absolute necessity. We have to keep that open for the time being...Just because the snow stops doesn't mean the temperature rises or the electricity comes back on."
