ABA Military Pro Bono Project Has Been Connecting Volunteer Attorneys to Servicemembers in Need for 15 years

ABA Journal

Attorneys Nicholas Hasenfus and Kensye Wood were featured in an ABA Journal article for their outstanding pro bono work for the Military Pro Bono Project. Mr. Hasenfus, who serves as the Pro Bono Chair of Holland & Knight's Veterans Group, shared his experiences and emphasized the importance of the project in supporting military personnel E6 and below.

"The Military Pro Bono Project generally is directed toward enlisted members E6 and below, which is the pay grade or rank," he said. "I was E5. I would have qualified for these services. Most of the [other] folks are retired officers, who maybe have a different perspective."

Ms. Wood described her work on a case involving a deployed service member struggling with a homeowners association dispute during her deployment, calling it "the most rewarding matter I worked on last year."

"It felt really great to do this work, because it was just wrong what the HOA and opposing counsel were trying to do because she was deployed," she said.
