'It's Not About Speed': Forging Strong Legal Department-Law Firm Relationships Starts with Humility, Trust

He highlighted how investing time in building these relationships is an essential part of law firm overhead that, although not directly reflected in timesheets, significantly contributes to client retention. Mr. Shepherd also stressed the importance of responsiveness and the role of honest, straightforward communication in establishing trust with clients.

"Think of this as part of your overhead. The time you invest in building relationships won’t show up on your timesheet, but it will show up in your client retention," he said.
