How Solar Fared in Trump's First Week Energy Orders
Tax attorney Nicole Elliott was cited in an Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) article recapping President Donald Trump's executive orders affecting the energy industry. The "Unleashing American Energy" order in particular targets clean energy incentives and other tax credits under the "Green New Deal," which includes the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The order directs all federal agencies to pause disbursement of funds issued under these laws, though a subsequent memo clarified the directive applies only to funds related to "energy exploration and production" on federal waters and lands as well as the electric vehicle mandate. With industry questioning whether the IRA's various clean energy tax credits are on the chopping block, Ms. Elliott commented that for the moment, this funding remains secure.
"Unleashing American Energy at Section 7 speaks to disbursement of funds appropriated through the IRA; technically speaking the IRA tax credits are not subject to appropriation," she explained.
