Law Week Energy and Natural Resources Deep Dive
Environmental and regulatory attorney Zach Pilchen was featured in a Law Week Colorado Q&A focused on the legal and policy forces reshaping Colorado's energy and natural resources industry. He described how federal priorities, recent administrative law developments and state climate initiatives are intersecting as Colorado works to balance emissions reduction targets with affordability, reliability and rising electricity demand. Mr. Pilchen also pointed to the reach of environmental regulation beyond traditional permitting, which influences transactions and development decisions across real estate, oil and gas assets and infrastructure projects. He also commented on the less noticeable but still significant efforts behind the scenes to put together new standards.
"What's far less visible is the massive regulatory infrastructure required to develop those rules, to enforce them and to achieve them," Mr. Pilchen said, adding that the cumulative effect of layered programs is complicating compliance for regulated entities.
