Holland & Knight Represents The Boston Housing Authority in Historic $63 Million Energy Performance Contract
BOSTON – April 1, 2010 – We are pleased to announce that Holland & Knight recently represented The Boston Housing Authority in their $63 million deal with Ameresco to retrofit 4,300 apartments in 13 public housing developments. The sweeping overhaul is designed to create more energy-efficient units and is the largest project of its kind in the nation.
Once completed, the project will cut The Boston Housing Authority's demand for energy by 36 percent and improve space heating at its largest property by replacing an aging centralized boiler plant with approximately 23 smaller, satellite boiler plants and adding individual apartment temperature controls. Additionally, Ameresco will be implementing renewable energy generation, co-generation and weatherization. These measures are expected to deliver enough future savings to cover the cost of the construction over a 20-year period.
Holland & Knight partner Dianne Phillips advised The Boston Housing Authority in its negotiations with Ameresco and partner Ben Volinski assisted in the financing transactions with investment bank, Crews & Associates. Both attorneys are based in the firm's Boston office.
