MIAMI – May 6, 2010 – Holland & Knight is proud to announce that Kevin Packman, a partner in the firm's Miami office, was honored with United HomeCare Services' Thelma Gibson Community Service Award at the 16th Annual Claude Pepper Memorial Awards Dinner on May 6. The Claude Pepper Memorial Awards are given to individuals and corporations that have worked to make a positive difference in the lives of the elderly and/or disabled in Miami-Dade County.

Packman is Chairman/CEO of the ALS Recovery Fund (and was President from 2001-2009). Since 2001, the ALS Recovery Fund has allocated more than $700,000 towards the ALS Recovery Fund Patient Care Fund at the University of Miami Kessenich Family ALS Clinic, which provides those in financial need with upwards of $10,000 annually. This money is used to provide nursing aids, ventilators, and other equipment for those in need. In 2006, the ALS Recovery Fund made a $1 million pledge commitment to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for an endowed chair in ALS research and it has allocated more than $750,000 towards the commitment.

Kevin is also a member of the Kessenich Family MDA ALS Center advisory board and a past board member of the Easter Seal Society of Miami-Dade County and Israel Bonds organizations. He was the first recipient of the ALS Association's Kevin Packman Award for the Most Outstanding Volunteer and a recipient of the Health Care Hero Award given by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce in 2002.
