Holland & Knight Partner Paul Lannon Elected to Board of National Association of College and University Attorneys
BOSTON (July 6, 2015) – Paul Lannon, the co-chair of Holland & Knight’s education practice, was elected to the board of directors of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) at the organization’s annual conference, held last week in Washington, D.C. Mr. Lannon is the first attorney from Holland & Knight to serve in this capacity. He begins a three-year term.
“It’s an honor and privilege to join the NACUA board,” said Mr. Lannon. “I am excited to begin this new phase of service to colleges and universities.”
Founded in 1960, NACUA provides legal assistance to colleges and universities by educating attorneys and administrators as to the nature of campus legal issues and offers continuing legal education to university counsel. Its members are primarily non-profit, regionally accredited institutions of higher learning in the United States, Canada and abroad. Candidates for the board of directors are nominated based on the quality and length of their NACUA leadership, the nature and extent of their participation in and contributions to the group’s programs and services, and their relevant nonprofit organization board membership experience, among other criteria.
Mr. Lannon advises private educational institutions on a broad range of matters, including Title IX sex discrimination and sexual assault, tenure disputes, the Clery Act and campus security, FERPA and student privacy, Title IV and other regulatory compliance, student discipline, policies and handbooks, governance, contracts and preventative training. He also acts as general outside counsel to several colleges and independent schools. He represents clients in state and federal courts, in U.S. attorney and state attorney general investigations, and before the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights and Office of the Inspector General, the U.S. Department of Justice and regulatory bodies.
