Lauren Maddox Joins Holland & Knight as Senior Policy Advisor

WASHINGTON (December 18, 2017) – Lauren Maddox, an authority on education policy and a well-known figure within Republican Party leadership circles, has joined Holland & Knight as a senior policy advisor in its Public Policy & Regulation Practice Group in Washington, D.C. Previously, she was a principal with the Podesta Group in Washington, where she directed the Education Sector Group.

Immediately prior to joining her former firm, Ms. Maddox was the assistant secretary for communications and outreach at the U.S. Department of Education, serving under former Secretary Margaret Spellings. She also has significant experience on the Hill as a senior advisor to the House majority leadership, including former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and former Republican Conference Chairman J.C. Watts Jr.

“With extensive experience in both the executive and legislative branches, Lauren is uniquely positioned to provide insider advice on how public policy is created and communicated,” said Rich Gold, the leader of Holland & Knight’s Public Policy & Regulation Practice Group. “Her in-depth knowledge of education policy issues will be incredibly valuable to our clients in the industry given the current administration’s intent to reshape many of the federal laws and regulations governing the nation’s education system.”

Ms. Maddox provides strategic legislative, regulatory and public policy counsel for a broad range of clients, including Fortune 100 companies, foundations, major universities and nonprofits. She represents clients before members of the House and Senate, including leadership, as well as the current policy team at the White House and the Department of Education, Office of Management and Budget, and other key agencies. In addition to crafting and implementing legislative strategies, Ms. Maddox develops and executes crisis communications and advocacy campaigns.

“Holland & Knight’s team of public policy professionals is among the most highly regarded in Washington and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with them,” said Ms. Maddox. “The fact that the firm has one of the top education practices in the country also was a major factor in my decision to make the move.”

Ms. Maddox is a trustee of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and serves on the leadership team of the American Action Forum, a public policy institute. She received a B.A. degree from Creighton University and an M.S. degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
