Overview
Carolee Kvoriak is a tax attorney in Holland & Knight's Energy Tax Group in Washington, D.C. She brings more than 26 years of tax law experience, including 16 years in senior leadership roles at a Michigan public utility. Most recently, she served as the company's tax executive director, overseeing all aspects of tax planning, tax controversy, regulatory matters, compliance and legislative initiatives for the organization.
Ms. Kvoriak has extensive experience advising on the development, acquisition and financing of renewable energy projects and the federal tax incentives that support them. She has structured and negotiated contracts for more than 50 renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, renewable natural gas, storage and hydro assets, ensuring qualification for federal renewable energy tax credits. Her experience includes advising clients on renewable tax credit qualifications, including beginning of construction strategies and meeting prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, as well as prohibited foreign entity requirements. Her experience also includes tax credit transfer transactions, tax equity partnerships and the evaluation of repowering opportunities for existing renewable facilities.
As a utility tax professional, Ms. Kvoriak has advised on a broad range of matters particular to regulated energy companies, including rate proceedings, integrated resource plans, securitizations, property tax disputes and large-scale tax controversies. She has worked closely with executive leadership on strategic transactions, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), financing initiatives and legislative developments affecting the energy industry.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Kvoriak held positions in private practice and corporate tax departments, advising clients on federal, state, international and energy-related tax matters.
