Overview

Cameron Rivers is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Houston office. Mr. Rivers focuses his practice on complex bankruptcy and restructuring cases, distressed debt workouts and acquisitions, and related litigation, including preference and fraudulent transfer litigation. He also represents clients looking to purchase or sell distressed assets and consults on complex financial and commercial transactions.

In addition, Mr. Rivers has represented debtors, financial institutions, secured and unsecured creditors, and creditor committees at all stages of restructuring – both in and out of court – and across various industries, including energy, transportation, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, real estate and media.

In 2018, Mr. Rivers completed his certificate in Management and Leadership for Lawyers through the Bucerius Law School and Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession.

  • Represented an electricity cooperative in a multibillion-dollar Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of a Texas electrical generation and transmission cooperative
  • Represented indenture trustees and collateral agents in various multimillion-dollar Chapter 11 cases

Distressed Asset Sales and Acquisitions

  • Advised clients in the purchase of distressed assets, including real estate, publications and company purchases, in court-supervised bankruptcy sales
  • Advised a client on multimillion-dollar private real estate purchase where lessee filed Chapter 11 case
  • Advised a client on purchase of a multimillion-dollar national publication from its Chapter 11 case

Nonbankruptcy Restructurings

  • Advised a large fiber internet company on potential bankruptcy risks regarding a multimillion-dollar out-of-court restructuring
  • Represented a large financial institution in receivership action against a borrower under multimillion-dollar revolver facility
  • Represented and advised a surety bond and financial services company regarding both in and out of court restructuring of a midstream oil and gas company with a multimillion-dollar plug and abandon (P&A) obligation in the outer continental shelf
  • Represented a midstream oil and gas company in effecting a Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) foreclosure action on a shareholder's membership interests

Complex Transaction Consultations

  • Advised a large energy company on potential counterparty risk in In re The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico as a representative of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy), the first Title III restructuring proceeding
  • Advised a new, multibillion-dollar solar energy and energy storage fund on bankruptcy and insolvency-related language for partnership agreement
  • Consulted on purchase of multimillion-dollar resort-style real estate transaction
  • Consulted on assumption and securitization of a commercial retail complex
  • Consulted for a multibillion-dollar asset management firm on acquisition of consumer financial technology (FinTech) company

  • Represented Houston musicians in copyright and intellectual property (IP) infringement case, successfully obtaining full take-down of IP from unauthorized streaming services and restoring full control of IP rights to the artists
  • Represented a New York City sculptor in reclaiming misappropriated work from a former patron
  • Represented a nationwide civil rights group focused on protecting voting rights
  • Represented a university student in full dismissal of a felony criminal case
