Overview

Andrew N. Choi is a commercial litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's New York office and a member of the firm's Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Choi represents clients in a wide range of industries, including real state, entertainment, trusts and estates, and labor, in federal and state litigation and arbitration matters. He is skilled at providing comprehensive and thoughtful legal analysis, which wields insightful case law and factual observations toward compelling and outcome-determinative arguments and narratives.

Mr. Choi also has significant experience with cases involving complex discovery, having managed cases with large discovery teams and involving the implementation of algorithmic tools in discovery analysis.

Mr. Choi’s recent experience includes:

  • securing dismissal of a purported class action against a security services firm, arguing in federal court for the application of the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA) in an area of new case law, resulting in the court compelling individual arbitration of a dispute and ultimately dismissal of the case
  • representing companies in litigation involving highly complex discovery, the oversight and training of multiple teams of contract attorneys, and the implementation of machine-learning in the review of documents
  • representing companies in responding to third-party discovery subpoenas in an efficient and cost-effective manner

In addition to his commercial practice, Mr. Choi handles considerable pro bono work to help immigrant children and serves on the New York Advisory Committee for Kids In Need of Defense (KIND). He has also written extensively on issues relating to distributed ledger technology, and in particular the metaverse and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO).

While attending New York University School of Law, Mr. Choi was a board member of the NYU Mediation Organization, where he trained law students to be volunteer mediators for the New York City Small Claims Court. Mr. Choi also interned at the Brennan Center for Justice, working on voting rights issues in the Democracy Program.

Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Choi received his Ph.D. in philosophy from The Ohio State University, where he taught classes in ethics, logic and aesthetics. He was also a concert violinist, trained at The Juilliard School, and a first prize winner of the American String Teachers Association's 50th Biennial National Solo Competition.

In addition to his active practice of law, Mr. Choi continues to be involved with music as a singer-songwriter. In 2021, he was profiled in Rolling Stone as one of its Artists You Need to Know, and was subsequently featured on the cover of The Princeton Alumni Weekly, which dubbed Mr. Choi "The Philosopher Musician." His song "Thurgood Marshall" was featured in Time magazine as part of the pop culture history of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice. AllMusic notes that Mr. Choi's "creative pursuits have resulted in some of the most unique and unconventionally thrilling pop music in the late 2010s."
