Attorney Michael Karlin will co-present a panel titled "U.S. Houses and Other Private Use Assets Held by Non-resident Aliens in the United States" to the STEP Los Angeles branch, discussing the corporate, flow-through and trust structures that non-resident alien (NRA) individuals and families should consider when purchasing property. Tax issues faced during acquisition, ownership, sale or exchange and inheritance, as well as filing requirements, factor into the planning objectives and strategies discussed as well. The session will conclude with a discussion of practical issues, from setting up entities and managing the property to basis, privacy and home country taxation.
