Combating Public Misperceptions of Discretionary Power in the Housing Entitlements Process
People for Housing Orange County
Irvine, CA 92614
West Coast Land Use and Environment attorney Ryan Leaderman will participate in a seminar hosted by People for Housing Orange County diving into public perceptions of local government authority when it comes to housing decisions. Although California law no longer allows city councils and other bodies to approve or deny new housing developments, real-life stories from public hearings reveal that many are not aware of this change. During this program, Mr. Leaderman will explore why confusion persists regarding discretionary authority and how lawyers and members of local government can effectively engage with the public to correct misperceptions and ensure successful navigation of the new entitlement process.
