Native American Law attorneys James Meggesto and Kenneth Parsons will participate in the Native American Finance Officers Association's (NAFOA) 2025 Fall Finance & Tribal Economies Conference. Taking place in Portland, Oregon, the two-day conference focuses on exploring trends in Tribal economic development and sharing resources with Tribal financial professionals. Holland & Knight will serve as a Silver Sponsor of the event.
Mr. Meggesto will join a panel examining avenues for financial relief for Tribal entities following the 2023 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Lac du Flambeau Band v. Coughlin that effectively prevents them from filing for bankruptcy. Speakers will look at alternative restructuring methods, policy solutions and approaches to evaluating distressed assets, as well as highlight tools to manage financial and economic setbacks. Mr. Parsons will present on the Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee (TTAC), an important point of Tribal relations and collaboration with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. His session will review updates on General Welfare Exclusion (GWE) and Tribally Chartered Corporations rulemaking, final rules expected by year-end and issues that are top of mind for Tribal leaders and practitioners that TTAC should consider in 2026.
