Celebrating Hispanic Heritage and Pride in the Legal Profession
Different backgrounds and experiences bring valuable perspectives to the legal profession. Watch as Real Estate attorney Miriam Soler Ramos discusses her ties to Spain, Cuba and Puerto Rico, her pride in those connections and the importance of honoring one's heritage throughout their legal career.
Miriam Soler Ramos: I believe that having varying cultures in the legal profession makes us more able to better serve our clients and makes us stronger as a profession.
Both of my paternal grandparents were born in Spain, both of my parents were born in Cuba, and my siblings and I were born in Puerto Rico. I feel deep ties to all three of these countries and to their culture. I really believe that they have shaped who I am today.
To me, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to stop and celebrate our culture. It's also an opportunity to share it with our colleagues and our friends who may be from other parts of the world and want to learn about our culture.
I would remind the next generation that staying connected to their heritage is both beautiful and meaningful. It's something to be celebrated and cherished, and it's something that they should be proud of as they continue their legal careers.
