Allison J. Luzwick's Successful Transition from Military Service to Private Practice
Veterans bring valuable experiences and perspectives to Holland & Knight, strengthening our teams and practices. Litigation attorney Allison J. Luzwick shares her experience transitioning from military service to private practice and finding a place where her military background was recognized as a strength even though it meant her resume differed from that of a traditional associate. She also reflects on the mentors who invested in her development and helped make her transition to the firm successful.
"I have always felt like Holland & Knight really valued my veteran service and saw the value in that," she explained.
Allison J. Luzwick: One thing that I love about Holland & Knight is Holland & Knight's willingness to look past the box of the typical professional background or typical applicant to come into a law firm. I have always felt like Holland & Knight really valued my veteran service and saw the value in that.
So my first experience ever at a law firm was when I came to Holland & Knight. I never felt like that was an impediment at Holland & Knight. Instead, they saw the bullet points that they really saw as strengths, and that brought something different to the table and different to the team. And I can't overstate how instrumental that was and how important that was to my successful transition.
I'm so grateful for, really, a team of attorneys here at Holland & Knight who have just taken me under their wing, invested in me, taught me, and has really made the transition from what oftentimes feels like a totally different world in the military and being a military lawyer to here, being at a law firm like Holland & Knight.
