Privacy in Public? A Look at Recent Efforts to Recognize Privacy Protections in Public Spaces
Photographs of individuals mourning at a public vigil, video of police officers stopping an individual on the street and photographs of protestors outside a campaign rally have been vital for news reporting. In recent policy debates, privacy advocates have taken aim at the right to photograph or record individuals in public. If these proposals were to advance, they would provide privacy protections for images and data gathered in public spaces.
