Four Issues for Every Family Business to Consider

Holland & Knight Shareholder Rights Blog
Michael J. Zdeb

Best Lawyers® just announced that I, Mike Zdeb, am to be recognized in the 23rd edition of The Best Lawyers in America for 2017. It is the second year that I have been recognized. The recognition in both years was for my "high caliber of work in the practice area of Closely Held Companies and Family Businesses Law."

Being recognized in such a well-known, peer-reviewed survey is very gratifying. I believe my peers selected me because of my philosophy and overall approach to advising closely held companies and family businesses in general.

My strategy has been focused on four areas of concern that are critical to these types of businesses.

  1. The manner in which the businesses are governed by and for the participants.
  2. The challenges of operating successfully in a constantly changing legal, financial and business environment.
  3. The relationships and duties that exist between and among the owners and family members.
  4. The valuation issues inherent in tax planning, wealth transfer and dispute resolution.

The success of these businesses and enterprises requires that each of these areas of concern be addressed by professionals with deep backgrounds on the topics.

I appreciate the recognition in Best Lawyers® and I am grateful for the many opportunities I have had to advance the interests of closely held and family owned businesses.
