Regenerative Medicine is Here: New Payment Models Key to Patient Access

Regenerative medicine treatments have the potential to offer patients transformative and long-lasting effects with a single treatment. However, healthcare providers, public and private payers, patient advocacy groups and policymakers must work together to prepare for the implications of these medical innovations with respect to current payment systems. This article examines the legal barriers of the current healthcare system to gene and cell therapy adoption, and presents several U.S.-focused, market-based and policy solutions to overcome reimbursement challenges.
