SEC Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations Publishes its 2020 Examination Priorities
Earlier this month, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE) announced its 2020 Examination Priorities. OCIE completed 3,089 examinations in Fiscal Year 2019, reflecting a 2.7 percent decrease from the previous fiscal year, in part due to the 35-day government shutdown where all agency activities ceased. Most notably, OCIE’s examinations of 2,180 registered investment advisers amounts to 15 percent coverage of the overall RIA space. As before, OCIE’S 2020 priorities are guided by its four pillars of promoting compliance, preventing fraud, identifying and monitoring risk, and informing policy.
