Risk Management for the Swift Implementation of Energy Transition Projects
Energy & Natural Resources attorney José Zapata co-authored an article published in the International Bar Association (IBA) Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law's (SEERIL) Journal of Energy & Natural Resources Law (JERL). The article recaps a session during the April 2024 SEERIL Biennial Conference, where a panel of global energy professionals discussed the risks of implementing energy transition projects too quickly, along with ways to mitigate or manage these risks. The issues covered include permitting and regulatory risks; environmental, social and governance (ESG) and related social risks, such as licensing and community impact; operational risks related to projects in remote locations; and geopolitical risks, such as supply chain security. The article takes a closer look at each of these areas before commenting on the challenges of funding these projects with non-traditional sources.
