The Navajo Nation's judiciary funding request had to be approved because the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) missed a deadline to respond to it, but argued against awarding the tribe "unreasonable" damages.
Attorney Philip M. Baker-Shenk, who represents the tribe, said Tuesday that the position advanced by the DOI in its memorandum this week is "specious and baseless" and "attempts to ignore the very clear ruling of the D.C. Circuit."
The Navajo Nation is represented by Attorneys Philip M. Baker-Shenk and Steven Gordon.
