Surface Transportation Bill Likely Headed Toward an Extension

Politico

Public Policy & Regulation Group Leader Rich Gold was quoted in a Politico article about the fate of the surface transportation bill, expected to be extended through continuing resolutions for at least another six months. The House has already passed a $1.5 trillion, five-year infrastructure package, but the Senate has yet to put forth its own bill. Mr. Gold explained that several factors, from election-year concerns to coronavirus-related issues, have rendered both parties in Congress distracted and unwilling to compromise.

"There are windows in the presidential cycle for Republicans to do these types of bills. A presidential election year where Republicans are defending a vast majority of seats in the Senate is not one of those windows," Mr. Gold said.
