Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion must Remain a Priority, with Kelly-Ann Cartwright

Chambers Diversity & Inclusion

Directors Committee Chair Kelly-Ann Cartwright was interviewed by Chambers Diversity & Inclusion about Holland & Knight's evolution on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in anticipation of an October 29 webinar on how the pandemic may affect these efforts throughout the legal profession. She said that Holland & Knight founder Chesterfield Smith's commitment to diversity was what led her to join the firm, and she described some of the firm's continued efforts in this area. She also stressed the importance of this commitment, given the unprecedented challenges 2020 has brought, and explained why it must remain a priority.

"Diversity, equity, and inclusion cannot be a priority only when times are good. In fact, it needs to remain a priority when times are their most challenging," she said. "These times call for organizations to draw upon their values and stand by their stated commitment. Our organizations do better when they are diverse, equitable, and inclusive. It is essential in order to offer a broad range of perspectives, approaches, and solutions and to produce better results for our clients."
