Phenomenon of El Niño and Unfinished Projects: X-Ray of the Energy Crisis in Colombia

Cambio

Energy attorney José Vicente Zapata was highlighted in a Cambio article that addresses the multiple challenges facing Colombia's energy sector. Mr. Zapata commented that these challenges create a complex and worrying outlook, and he emphasized the importance of protecting investors in energy projects.

"It is urgent to adopt effective decisions to guarantee the rights of investors and materialize the energy transition. This is not achieved with the simple expedition of additional rules but rather with the governmental management of the private sector to materialize opportunely the energy needs of the country," he said.

He added that renewable energy projects have also made little progress, for reasons including the lack of infrastructure and environmental license approvals.

"In summary, even though the previous government has put various renewable energy projects in place, the reality is that many of these face significant challenges that have impeded their complete operation," he explained.
