A Company Practicing Greenwashing Can Pay Up to 2,000 Minimum Wages
La República
Consumer protection attorney Camila López was interviewed by La República about the phenomenon of greenwashing and its legal implications in Colombia. Ms. López explained that, although there is no specific fine for this practice in the country, companies engaging in it could face significant sanctions for violating the Consumer Statute and potentially environmental or competition laws. She also highlighted the importance of authenticity in sustainable business practices and the legal consequences of deceptive marketing strategies.
"To date, in Colombia there is no specific fine for the practice called Greenwashing. However, these behaviors could mainly violate provisions in the consumer statute, which provide for fines of up to 2,000 minimum monthly wages. Likewise, depending on the type of infraction committed and the particularities of the case, environmental or competition laws could even be violated," she said.
