How Nonprofit Service Serves Law Leaders
Deputy Managing Partner Tiffani Lee was interviewed by Law360 about her experience serving on nonprofit boards and how doing so has helped her become a better lawyer. Ms. Lee shared that she first joined one such board when she was a junior associate, similar to other professionals featured in the article who described an early pull toward civic engagement and a desire to give back. Since that first appointment, Ms. Lee has served on the boards of local, state and national organizations; currently, she is a member of the board of directors of Florida Justice Institute, a nonprofit public interest law firm. She shared that these engagements "build strong local relationships with other business and community leaders," which are "critical to establishing and solidifying a strong reputation and brand in the community," particularly for lawyers who are not native to the areas where they practice. She also advised attorneys to think carefully about the time and financial commitments when considering board membership, as well as seek opportunities related to causes that are important to them and to which they think they can meaningfully contribute.
